Grades are in

May 10th, 2009  |  Published in Announcements

Ok, I’ve made it through everything. The grades are in, the scores are online on the Blackboard site.

With respect to the final, the score is out of 35 points. The grading system was a bit complex, but essentially 80% and above was an A, 70% and above was an A-, etc. This corresponds to: 28 and above = A, 24.5 and above = A-, 21 and above = B+, 17.5 and above = B, 14 and above = B-, etc.

I have also posted all of the keys (which I for some reason hadn’t done earlier). You need a password to get them.

I expect to be emailing everyone tomorrow, at which point I’ll send the password for the keys, and also point you electronic copies of the exams and any homeworks I have that I hadn’t handed back.

Final, Task D1, typo: should be “of (28) to be, following”

May 7th, 2009  |  Published in Homework notes

Another little typo discovered. In Task D1, I left out a “to be” and a comma; it should read “…what we take the formal semantic representation of (28) to be, following…”

Final, Task A2, typo: “in (6)” not “in the (6)”

May 6th, 2009  |  Published in Homework notes

Just noticed: In Task A2, there is a superfluous “the” before “(6)”. It should read “Comment on the bearing of (6)…” not “on the bearing of the (6)…”

Take-home final is posted

April 26th, 2009  |  Published in Announcements

Finally, the take-home final is finished and posted. Click on the link in the previous sentence to get it.

It is officially due on the last day of classes, which is April 30th. Unless you want an extension, hand it in on that date. (Remember, though, that if you hand it in after April 30th, it needs to be emailed to me because I will be out of town. There is no need to draw any trees, so this should be quite feasible.)

Let me know if you find any typos, or have any questions (and you might check back here as you work on it to see if I’ve posted any notes about it).

See you Tuesday.

Still working on it

April 25th, 2009  |  Published in Announcements

Hi everyone. Yes, it’s now past Friday night as well. Thanks for checking. I’m still working on it (this test is going to wind up being a lot easier to take than it has been to write.). My new ETA is tonight (Saturday). This deadline, I think I can meet.

Take-home final: Not yet, check back tomorrow night

April 23rd, 2009  |  Published in Announcements

Hi everyone. I don’t yet have the take-home final ready, too many things happening over the last couple of days. I am hoping to get a chance to write it tonight and post it tomorrow, but I think it should be available at least by late tomorrow (Friday) night.

Ellie knows which secret agents left

March 31st, 2009  |  Published in Trivia

This is pretty tangential. But since I saw the very Tom and Zoe who were involved in demonstrating the de re and de dicto interpretations of which secret agents looking up at me from an ad in this morning’s Metro, I thought I’d post this note. Took something like 7 years for the show to get from BBC to PBS, but there it is. I think shortened versions were on BBCA a while back.

No class on March 3

March 2nd, 2009  |  Published in Announcements

Snowfown I’ll see if there’s anything that can be done with respect to rescheduling, but I can’t get to Boston due to the snow, so:

CLASS IS CANCELED FOR MARCH 3.

See you on Thursday.

No office hours Feb 18

February 17th, 2009  |  Published in Announcements

Just to let people know, I’m not going to be able to make my office hours tomorrow. I’ll also be offline from mid-afternoon tomorrow until late tomorrow night. So, if you were thinking of stopping by tomorrow, it would be better to email me (or to stop by my office hours on Thursday). Back to the regular schedule next week.

Chomsky is speaking at BC on Tuesday

February 4th, 2009  |  Published in Events

I just discovered that on Tuesday (Feb 10), Noam Chomsky is giving a talk at Boston College: http://tinyurl.com/cfpsyj. It’s not a Linguistics talk, it’s a political talk, but in case you’re interested, now you know it’s happening.

(I don’t plan to keep announcing political talks here, even if they are to be given by famous linguists, but this is the first one of the semester, so it’s probably ok.)
